Blackjack Pit

The blackjack pit refers to an area in a casino with blackjack tables. Generally, casino pits refer to areas with tables for playing games that make use of these tables such as roulette, craps and blackjack. Typically, a blackjack pit is organized in such a way that the gaming tables form to tables which are arranged systemically back to back. The blackjack tables are placed facing outward and face the public aisle way. At the blackjack pit, the space existing between the table rows is specifically restricted only to casino personnel or the blackjack dealers.

Besides the game dealers, the blackjack pit can also have other personnel like the game supervisors who are referred to as the ‘floorman’ but there are also women nowadays. The blackjack pit will also have the clerks manning the computer terminals and inputs the information regarding the tables and players. A blackjack pit manager is also known as the pit boss and is responsible for supervising the entire pit. You will also find a plethora of other person at the pit who keeps moving in and out supplying the tables with empty money boxes and chips while also performing other necessary maintenance tasks. The size of blackjack pits can vary significantly depending on various factors such as the size of a casino. Just as you would expect, a big casino/ gambling house will of course have a big blackjack pit to reflect its big size and the same is also the same for the small casinos. In short, there is no standard on how big or small the blackjack pit should be.

A typical casino will typically have between eight and twelve sized blackjack tables placed may be next or close to the roulette and craps tables but at a separate location. The pit is not protected by anything at its end and there is just a typical barrier that keeps the public out of the pit. Most casinos will places another table for a different game at the end of the blackjack pit and will be placed facing across the aisle. The most important thing to note is that the blackjack pit is strictly out of access from the public and this is important in ensuring that no one interferes with the game. In this regard, the only people allowed into a blackjack pit apart from the casino personnel are those playing the game.

In most cases, small casinos just have one blackjack pit but larger casinos will feature several pits with some of them even having a dozen blackjack pit. It is also important to keep in mind the fact that a blackjack pit is devoted only to playing blackjack and not any other kind of game. For this reason, you will find a casino having different pits for the various games it offers. In this regard, there are roulette pits, craps pits and so on. A blackjack pit thus simply showcases an area at the casino that is specifically designated for playing the blackjack game.
